Les plus gros pollueurs plastiques

Les récentes opérations mondiales de nettoyage des plages, rivières, forêts, parcs et rues attestent de la surconsommation de plastique. Le mouvement Break Free From Plastic vient de publier son rapport Branded annuel. Il désigne comme principaux responsables Coca-Cola, Pepsi et Uniliver (ce dernier étant sponsor de la COP26 qui aura lieu à Glasgow du 1^er au 12 novembre !). En Europe, la multinationale suisse Nestlé suit directement ce podium américain. Nestlé, c’est 200 marques dont Nescafé®, Herta®, Kit Kat®, Vittel®, Contrex®, Hepar®, Maggi®, Buitoni®, Purée Mousline®, Purina Petcare®.

Sur la liste de ce rapport Branded, figurent également Colgate-Palmolive, Mars (Uncle Bens®, Ebly®, Suzi Wan®, M&M’s®, Twix®, Bounty®, Whiskas®, Iams®, Cesar®, Pedigree®, Dove®…), Danone (Danone®, Evian®), Mondelez International (Lu®, Milka®, Toblerone®, Côte d’Or®) et Procter&Gamble (Gillette®, Pampers®, Tampax®, Always®, Ariel®, Monsieur Propre®), entre autres.

Les scandales de Nestlé

Nestlé produit 1,5 million de tonnes de plastique chaque année, révèle l’ONG Greenpeace, soit l’équivalent de 7,6 tonnes d’émissions de CO₂. Rappelons que plus de 99 % du plastique sont produits à partir de pétrole ou de gaz naturel, et que 91 % du plastique produit ne sont pas recyclés.

Nestlé est également impliqué dans le récent scandale des décharges sauvages à Vittel et à l’étranger… Rejeter les déchets dans la nature reste moins coûteux pour les entreprises que de gérer leur fin de vie. Et en 2020, dans la pollution d’une rivière des Ardennes, causant la mort de milliers de poissons suite à un débordement de sa station d’épuration.

WWF tire la sonnette d’alarme : « D’ici 2030, la production mondiale de déchets plastiques pourrait augmenter de 41 % et la quantité accumulée dans l’océan pourrait doubler… Une pollution plastique incontrôlable. » Un appel à l’action collective est lancé.
